Default Bingo - Pacific Dawn

Hi
Taking family on Pacific Dawn - April school holidays.

I read in the Dawn daily newsletter (dound on another post) that you must be over 18 years to play bingo.
However, my two sons 15 & 16 want to play bingo during the cruise.

Are they able to play and if they win, either hubby or myself then go up and collect prizemoney. ??

This was the case when the kids cruised with us 9 years ago and our then 7yr old won a game with the bingo card we bought for him.
After he told us he had all the numbers, we called out bingo and went and collected the cash prizemoney which was almost what the entire cruise cost us......so as you can imagine their keen to play again on this cruise.

Any info from past bingo players on pacific dawn would be appreciated.
Also, is bingo played every day when at sea ??

Thanks

Hi,
I was on the Dawn a couple of weeks ago (but alas, it seems like years ago ) and they announced at Bingo that kids could play along as long as someone over 18yo collected the prize.

Have a great trip !!!!!

To answer your other question...yes Bingo is played every sea day - the jackpot on our last day being around $6,600. If I remember correctly, the cost (for playing 5 games) is $10 for one card or $20 for 3 cards or $30 for 6 cards. You can't seperate the cards though - or if you do, they are not valid.

And judging by the ques in the casino for the bingo books they must have made a fortune and that was just 7 nights.

I didnt play bingo,I think it is to easy to rig, have you ever wondered why the jackpot always goes off on the last night!

If they gave away cruises as prizes I would have played every night.

I agree on the fortune. On our Sun Princess cruise it was certainly 6 figure profit.

It is not about rigging Den. Like most jackpot bingo, they draw a minimal amount of numbers on the first day, and an extra number on each consecutive day. If not won before the last day (very rare due to amount of numbers) the last session will continue to draw numbers till there is a winner.

We only bought tickets on the last couple of days. Not because it was rigged, but because the prizes were so tiny for the profit that was being made.

Not everyone knows this but you can actually just buy an extra card just for the jackpot bingo, well it is for three jackpot cards.
So if you can cope with marking 6 cards or you can share with hubby.
They do go real slow on the jackpot.

What also added to the tension was they got anyone who only needed one number to stand up. Hard for those standing and equally hard for those still sitting.

No silly man with the "NOOOOOOO Bingo" though, glad they didnt adopt that.

as geoff mentioned the jackpot game just keeps going until someone wins it not in 45 numbers or whatever it is for the other games.

Thanks for the replies, good to know that the boys will be able to play - but at the price of the books I don't know how much they will actually be playing.

They have certainly changed the prize format since we were last on a cruise.
From memory, there were no minimum numbers drawn and the prizemoney depended on how many people bought tickets for that day.

Pity that now the cards can't be seperated so your 'forced' to buy cards for each person wanting to play.

For the price of the books, I think we also will just buy tickets on the last few days.

Kaseyoz Could you explain what you mean when you said you can buy an extra card just for jackpot bingo. ?

Does that mean that you don't play the games in the daily sessions and only play the jackpot game on the very last day (where the prize is guaranteed to go off)

for the jackpot bingo you could buy an addtional card that was just for the one game.

normally you buy one book with either 1 or 3 cards for each game. This is one card for one game

prices i just checked
1 set of cards for all 5 games $10
3 sets of tickets for all 5 games $20
3 single tickets for the jackpot bingo $10.

The earlier games do go fast. One guy won in i think 6 numbers, they were doing 4 corners. They also do a line, or the postage stamp, line on my bottom(just the bottom line) ;letter H line.

It is a bit hard to follow for a newbie, so check your kids if they are playing, it is not just a full house, that is just for the jackpot game.

Just dont tear the 3 pack books into separate games.

thanks Kaseyoz for all the info its great.

One more thing, how much were the line games paying as the prize when you were cruising and are the line game prizes a % of ticket money collected for that days bingo or is the line games prizes a set amount.

Prize money was a paltry $100 rising to $125 for the second game.
You certainly have to play for the fun of it.
even the jackpot day didnt have as many people there as demo would have got for his jackpot bingo on the pacific sun...

The jackpot on our Dawn cruise was over $13000. Shame it wasn't me that won

Hi, I too am cruising in April. What cruise are you going on?

I did the Pacific Dawn New Years Cruise and jackpot on the last day I think was about $11,000.00.

There were so many passengers playing for the jackpot on the last sea day, that they didn't all fit in the International Show Lounge, so they had to sit the passengers that didn't fit in The Dome.

They had one P&O staff member in the show lounge and one in the dome, wth walkie-talkies. So when the number was read out in the show lounge, it was communicated through to the dome, and then if no one in either location called Bingo, they moved onto the next number.

Bingo was a great part of the holiday and i'm sure your kids will enjoy it.

Hope you have a great cruise!

HAPPY CRUISING!!

Travelling on W813 April 13 - 23rd. Tropical Awakenings.

We on Baja deck, inside cabin. We thought we would forgo an outside cabin on a lower deck and be on one of the higher decks without a window for roughly the same price.

We may miss/regret not having a window cabin but we'll send the kids out to deck each morning to checkout the weather and report back.

Wow $10,000 more than Sun Princess. The $3000 prize was split 4 ways too, so I was not shattered when we missed out.
Seems Sun Princess is certainly a poor cousin to P&O with bingo stakes (and calling too)

Ooh not long now for your cruise either! We are on the one just before you. Cruise W812.

Don't worry about not having a window...you get the best view of all when you're on deck!

$3000????You've gotta be kidding . The jackpot wasn't much less than that on my Fairstar cruise in 1986.

Unfortunately not kidding. We calculated that in the 11 days they played (with 2 sessions on sea days) they raked in enough profit to pay for the mediocre callers and assistants wage for a whole year (CD, asst CD, Bingo Bunny).

Based on outlay\return with other gambling, the casino & pokies were a far better bet. We saw the measly prizes and only played on the last 2 days.

And I reckon the books on the Fairstar would have been max $5 each.

So doens't ALL the money collected for bingo go back into prize money like it does on P&O? We only had one session per day on sea days, none on port days, that's a total of 7 sessions.
