Default Do any lines have DECENT Video Poker onboard? (eg.. 9/6 JOB)

I enjoy playing VP occasionally (when I am not playing Blackjack), though the pay tables I have seen at sea (mainly on Carnival) are pathetic.

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO Tom-n-Cheryl: On most cruise lines the pay tables are pathetic. There is no competition on a cruise ship so they have a captive audience.

You folks should try to play a different game. Three Card Poker is pretty good. So is Craps. In craps certain bets pay at true odds. The only bets in the Casino that pay at true odds. Roulette of course doesn't pay at true odds, but, it has proven, like BJ to be very popular although I don't know why.

Roulette is a GREAT game for those that don't care to think (or for those who CAN'T)!

So are the VP machines that bad on a cruise? Are they different than ones in vegas or other casinos?

Hi Tom,
I've hit 3 royal flushes on recent cruises. 2 on the same machine but different cruises on the Holland America Zuiderdam and 1 on the Carnival Destiny. VP is my favorite game, I can play as fast as I want or as slow as I want. The machines are being upgraded on a regular basis. I was in Council Bluff, Iowa and found a mcahine that you can play 10 hands at once. It was a quarter machine and in 15 minutes I hit a royal flush for over $1100. I had $70 invested at the time. Good return. Paid for the trip!

You can play 100 hands at once at the casino by us! Talk about dumping your money in a hurry..

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO jty: All slot machines are not good on a cruise. They are different than the ones in Vegas or other land based casinos.

On a cruise ship you have only slot machines on that cruise ship. There is no competition. On land based casinos if you don't like one place you can go to another casino. On a ship what other casino can you go to?

Table games on the other hand have roughly the same odds from casino to casino.

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO jty: Maybe not, but, that doesn't alter the pay tables at all. You are still a captive audience and because of that pay tables will not be good on a cruise ship.

From the last cruise I was on the pay tables looked the exact same as any other casino I go to

Default VP Pay tables??

Define bad please 4-6 4-7 5-6 ??? What games and what schedules/denominations. Even in tight casinos (not all for sure) i have occasionally found a few machines with an acceptable albeit not preferred schedule.

Personally, I've never seen anything other than 6/5 on a $.25 machine, and 7/5 for a $1.00 one...

pathetic in either case.

Yeah in Vegas there are many 9/6 machines, 7/5 would be a terrible machine in Vegas.

Default Pay tables

The best pay tables that I have seen on a ship for JOB would be 8/5. I have seen 9/6 DB and 9/5 DDB. On NCL and on RCL.

If you are lucky you can win.

I have been on Liberty of the Seas and Carnival Liberty and they both has three hands at one time.

There were also several other games on Liberty of the Seas this past March on that same machine. That is the first time that I have seen that.

They are talking about payouts for Video Poker. It is the payout for Fullhouse/Flush. 9/6 good 7/5 bad. If a casino has bad payouts for video poker, the slots are most likely bad also. It has nothing to do with what you see on the machine for symbol payouts. An example would be 1c slot machines in Vegas payout is about 88.5% on a cruise you most likely are looking at around 82%. There is no competion at sea and not much in regulations either, so the lower payouts. Stick with the table games.

I have seen .25 8/5 JOB on the Celebrity Mercury. It may have even been 8/5 bonus. That is the best I have ever seen on a cruise ship, and that is not very good. Most of the machines are far worse than that. Typically 6/5 or worse for Jacks or Better. Some may pay only 100 for a four-of-a-kind. You will never, ever find 9/6 JOB on a cruise ship.

It is easy to assume that the slots are even worse.

Many people don't realize that you can tell how much a machine pays back by viewing the pay tables, assuming that you play the machine with the correct strategy.
