I usually come down to your area once a year for a golf/Red's outing. We play at Glenview, just south of you guys. Not this year, at least not until after July. Just saw the doctor yesterday, no golf till after I see him in July.

The one with the organs was the Springdale Music Palace or something like that. I guess I missed the bar rescue. Is the strip mall where antique mall is now behind Wendy's? There used to be a nice restaurant called the Brown Derby on the end years ago.

Bill - if you come down for the Reds let me know. I have a fun job with them which helps pay for my cruises.

I will. we usually make one trip a year, usually in June or July. August the earliest this year.

The Brown Derby building is where it is. It was rumored that there have been health problems with the building that have lead to some of the failures.

Wasn't Van Leunens there where the antique store is now?
I very seldom drive rt. 4 any more and when I do I don't take my eyes off the road.

Correct it shut down at least 15 - 20 years ago.

We enjoyed shopping there. We also enjoyed going to the Pease store where furniture fair is now.
I hope to start tilling the garden and flower beds next week.

I wish I could have a garden. I'm trying to catch a pesky groundhog that keeps coming back each year taking residence under my deck or the neighbors shed. Every time I try to grow tomatoes it gets into them. I set up a new trap today with a trail of apple pieces. Keith had borrowed one from a friend that was rusty and the critter was able to get in and snatch the fruit without tripping the cage. Hopefully I can catch it and find it a new home many miles away.

you might try putting 2 by 4 welded wire fabric around them and stake it in securely. I have problems with squirrels and they can fit thru the fabric so I bought some 1 inch poultry netting. I'll put the welded wire up since I will stand by itself then wrap the netting around it and on top. I don't know if ground hogs can climb or not. I know possums can, they used to eat all of my cherry tomatoes. The possums and squirrels don't eat too many of the full sized tomatoes. Another idea, go to jungle jims, but Mad Dog 357 Ghost Pepper Hot Sauce -or any hot sauce made from ghost pepper, mix it with a gallon of water and spray it on the tomatoes every 3 or 4 days.
I checked the garden, still too wet to till, hoping it will be dry enough by Monday afternoon. I weeded the rose patch, had more thistle growing this year than I have ever seen.

We had great luck with our tomato plants last year. Going to Lowe's Sunday to get plants for this year. Our son and daughter-in-law will be staying part time at our house while we are gone watching our dog. They want to plant them in the garden while we are gone.

Groundhogs can climb. They get up on the deck. I like the idea of spraying with pepper. Maybe I'll try a patio variety again and try that approach. I haven't caught the critter yet. I caught a squirrel on Saturday but asked Keith to release it. It was totally freaked out and must have ran 5-6 yards away once released.

Bon Voyage AlSEAU

We have squirrels coming from every where. I hope the chicken netting does the job.
We get most of our tomato plants from Lakeview nursery or Jungle Jims. Fay likes the white half runner beans and we get the seeds from Couch's in N. Miami. Not too far off that you will be leaving.
I hope the ground is dry enough to till, it's a beautiful day for it.

Chicken netting? I might have to put that around my entire property. The family across the street has a chicken that they don't keep under control and its always tearing up my yard, crapping on my porch, or scratching my hot tub cover. BTW, I live in the city of Columbus proper, but no rules on chickens. Even though I hate the animal, I can't be mean to animals and its no use talking to those people, they won't answer the door for fear its ICE.

My parents had chickens. I don't like any kind of domestic foul fowl. I think they are filthy.
You could always send a picture of a roasted chicken or some fried eggs to the guy and tell him thanks, appreciate the goodies.

I would hate chickens too. Ick. I don't like those Canadian geese either. Messy and nasty. The mallards come up and wander in the yards when the lake gets too high. They are kinda cute and stay in pairs.

Funny you should mention geese, I came back from lunch late yesterday, took the last spot. When I went to leave last night there was a goose on a nest just 3 feet from my car door. With my back surgery I don't move fast and climbing in the passenger door was no option. I got an umbrella out of the back seat on the passenger side and held it as I got in my door telling the goose I would have no 2nd thoughts of beating her with it if she moved. Fortunately it stayed put.

We used to go to Winton Woods and around the lake. The geese changed all that with their droppings. A person couldn't walk along the lake it was so bad. I used to walk the bike path along the Great Miami River, the geese would be all over the path and it was scary to walk thru them. Luckily they would move aside. Now the only birds I want to see are the chickadees, goldfinches and wrens.
